Soccer Legend, Pele's Son Sentenced to 33
Edinho, son of Edson Arantes do Nascimento, better known as Pele has been sentenced to 33 years imprisonment for money laundering. The money was said to be have raised through a drug trafficking business in the coastal city of Praia Grande, Brazil. Although, the retired soccer player denies the drug trafficking charges, he admits he had a drug problem, according to BBC News.
The court decision was issued in the nearby coastal city of Praia Grande, Brazil. Edinho apparently used his father's famous name to promote businesses that laundered money for a cartel that shipped cocaine into Rio de Janeiro, according to a report in The Independent.
The 43 years old goalkeeping coach in Santos, is the third child from his father's first marriage. He was only 5 years old when his family relocated to New York to play for Cosmos. Edinho, whose real name is Edson Cholbi do Nascimento is expected to appeal.
Pele is a global ambassador for soccer and for other humanitarian causes. It is very sad that he has to deal with all the legal troubles connecting to his son, Edinho.
