Muhammadu Buhari Wins Nigeria's 2015 Presidential Election

In the most competitive presidential race, ever in Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari has won the Nigerian presidential poll. This is also Nigeria's first election victory by an opposition party (APC).

We also gathered that the incurbent, Goodluck Jonathan, has conceded defeat and called Gen Buhari to congratulate him on his victory.

Buhari, a former general who took power in a military coup in 1983, defeated Mr Jonathan "with 15.4 million votes against 13.3 million," according to Reuter Tally.

Observers have generally praised the election, but there have been allegations of fraud, which some fear could lead to protests and violence.

Goodluck Jonathan's tenure in office has been greatly criticized for corruption scandals and failure to address an insurgency by the extremist group Boko Haram in the northern part of the nation. The country's economy is also in a very bad shape as a result of the fall in oil prices that have weakened its fiscal position and undermined its currency.
