In 2011, the Mr Ugly pageant kicked off. The pageant organizer David Machowa said it was launched because “People have always seen ugliness as something to be ashamed of,
“We are looking for natural ugliness,
“Looks are God given. We should all be proud of who we are,” he told the press.
Unlike the previous years, the organizers of this year's event said it was a tough competition with a record number of applications for the beauty pageant with a 'twist.'
Sadly, the first runner-up, William Masvinu who has held the crown since 2012 said he was robbed off the title this time around.
Though Masvinu walked away with a $100 prize, he said: "The judges were not fair, the organisers must look for new judges to start the contest afresh. I did not lose today."
In 2012, Masvinu won the $100 cash prize and a one night stay at a three-star hotel, which he cashed for food.
