Breaking: Queen Elizabeth II dies at 96
Queen Elizabeth II, who was recently under medical supervision by her doctors at the Balmoral Castle, where she was vacationing this summer, has passed away at age 96.
Buckingham Palace announced on Thursday that the queen "died peacefully."
The news of her death came just hours after the palace stated that her health was of concern and that her doctors were monitoring her condition.
Marking 70 years as Britain's queen, she was the longest-serving United Kingdom Monarch. She came to the thrown in 1952.
Prince Charles of Wales is expected to take her place on the British throne as King Charles III and the head of state for 14 Commonwealth realms.
Prince Charles stated that the death of his mother was a "moment of great sadness."
His wife, Camila will become the queen consort.
